ENTON, Texas – The Salvation Army of Denton will hold its 2019 annual luncheon in The Hub Club at the University of North Texas’ Apogee Stadium on Tuesday, April 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sportscaster Brad Sham, otherwise known as "the voice of the Dallas Cowboys," will be the keynote speaker for this year’s event. Sham will be in his 41st season broadcasting Cowboys' games this year. His 48-year broadcasting career also includes more than 25 Cotton Bowl Classics, the Big 12 TV basketball network, NCAA basketball and football, as well as the NFL and the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games for CBS Radio and Westwood One. He has also carried out numerous television assignments including FC Dallas and Major League Soccer, the NFL on CBS and FOX, the Final Four for NCAA TV, NASCAR on DirecTV, and the NFL Europe League for Fox Sports.

Sham wrote a book in 2002 of his favorite Cowboys' stories, Stadium Stories: the Dallas Cowboys for Globe-Pequot press. In 2008, he played the role of a reporter in the Oliver Stone feature film, “W.”

Sham graduated from the University of Missouri in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He has won eight Katie Awards from the Press Club of Dallas and has been named Texas Sportscaster of the Year 12 times, the most in Texas history, by the National Sports Media Association, including for 2017, and was an inaugural inductee in the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2002.

He also serves as a Life Member on the board of directors of the Cotton Bowl and the board of trustees of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Board of Trustees and executive committee of Temple Emanu-El in Dallas.

Deputy Athletic Director at the University of North Texas, Hank Dickenson will serve as Emcee for the luncheon. Dickenson is an accomplished fundraiser and active community liaison; an honored recipient of the UNT’s inaugural "Bob Rogers Service and Community Engagement Award;" the Denton Chamber of Commerce's highest honor, the "Otis L. Fowler Award;" as well as being honored by the Boy Scouts of America/Longhorn Council's "Distinguished Citizen Award."
He has also served as Board Chair of the Denton Chamber of Commerce.

Funds raised from the annual luncheon help The Salvation Army continue to provide services for homeless men, women, and children in Denton. Last year, the organization provided 8,916 nights of care for men and women seeking shelter, and served 16,125 meals to the hungry. It also supplied 1,679 grocery bags to individuals and families in need, and provided Christmas gifts to 2,028 children and special needs adults in Denton. The Salvation Army social service center in Denton also provides spiritual counseling, financial aid and referral assistance.
