The Salvation Army to Conduct a Grand Opening of its Completely Renovated State-of-the-art Community Center in Pleasant Grove
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony
The Salvation Army will reopen its remodeled and expanded community center in Pleasant Grove, located at 8341 Elam Road, Dallas, at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 19. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings will participate in the ceremony. Dallas City Council member representing District 5, Rickey D. Callahan, along with project sponsors and Pleasant Grove community members, will also join The Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Commanders, Majors Jon and Barbara Rich for the official opening of the remodeled center.
The upgrade began in October 2017, with JohnsonKreis Construction as contractor, working together with H.H. Architects. The project cost more than $7.7 million.
The state-of-the-art facility has a completely remodeled worship space that seats 189 people, and is equipped with new audio/video system, high-definition projectors, TV monitors, and has a control booth for lighting and sound. The complex also has renovated meeting spaces to host financial education, life skills, and job readiness training. There is a complete interior upgrade including a new community food pantry, with a 691-square-foot space for food distribution. Qualified local residents will receive free bags of groceries when they are in need to help alleviate food insecurity. The facilities include a fully functional commercial-grade kitchen with a remodeled dining area that accommodates 80 people. The dining area is equipped with a high-definition video projector and a 133-inch retractable screen.
Additional offices are also provided to host collaborative community partners, bringing in key services such as legal and medical support directly to those in need.
The parking lot has been expanded and the lighting improved. There is a fully reconditioned athletic field with a new sport lighting system and bleachers, as well as a remodeled gymnasium with maple floors, new LED lighting, new sound system, and two scoreboards.
Children will have access to a range of programs including basketball, volleyball, soccer, football, softball, after-school program and performing arts.
The renovated amenities will serve to complement The Salvation Army’s long-standing commitment to meeting the immediate needs of individuals and families, while working to foster self-sufficiency in the long-term.
The Salvation Army has been addressing needs in the multicultural community of Pleasant Grove in Southeast Dallas since 1965. It has been a welcome place for children, families and senior adults.
