Arlington, Texas (August 16, 2017) – The Salvation Army will host its fourth annual The MOST Amazing Race, sponsored by Mouser Electronics, in downtown Arlington on Saturday, September 9. The event raises funds for Salvation Army programs that positively impact youth in the Arlington and Mansfield area, including the Youth Education Town that was started as a lasting legacy of Super Bowl XLV. All teams are competing for a top prize of $2,500!

The race will begin at 3 p.m. at a site in central Arlington to be announced at a later date. It will end at Levitt Pavilion with a free evening concert by Texas-born singer, songwriter and producer Deryl Dodd (known to his fans as “The Double D”). Dodd has a lively Texas sound with a contemporary flair.

The race course includes stations where two-person race teams are tested with challenges that tax their brains along with the physical challenge of running the race. Past challenges have included hitting home runs at Globe Life Park, taking a team photo while riding the New Texas Giant or the Titan at Six Flags, performing choreography from “Hello Dolly” at Theatre Arlington, and navigating obstacle courses created by Arlington Police and Fire Departments.

The first 40 race teams that raise a minimum of $125 qualify for participation in The MOST Amazing Race.

The chair for the event is David Sanders, Transition and Transformation Integration Manager for IBM. Sanders has a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and is active in the community. He is a head usher at First United Methodist Church in Arlington, a former member of the Arlington ISD Education Foundation, and is a self-defense instructor for community groups.

“The Salvation Army’s ‘The MOST Amazing Race’ will build on the successes of the first three races to be the best race yet,” said Sanders. “This year's event promises to be huge as more community groups, race teams and sponsors have expressed interest in participating. Our goal is to add to last year's fundraising success so The Salvation Army is able to provide character-building programs for at-risk youth, and also to help struggling families within our community.”

A new feature this year is the Emergency Responders Challenge within The MOST Amazing Race to recognize the highest finishing team that includes at least one Emergency Responder – police, fire, EMS, or ER personnel. The Emergency Responders Challenge Trophy is sponsored by Jambo’s Barbeque Shack and will be presented on stage at the conclusion of the race. Emergency Responder teams are also eligible for the cash prizes awarded to top finishing teams.

Over $50,000 has been raised since 2014 through The MOST Amazing Race to shelter and feed families, and provide after-school care to underprivileged youth.

Mouser Electronics, Dallas Cowboys, Arlington Today, J. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill, Levitt Pavilion, Jambo’s Barbeque Shack and Bannertime are current sponsors for the event. Racing teams, additional sponsors and volunteers are still needed.
