THE SALVATION ARMY TO HOST THIRD-ANNUAL “THE MOST AMAZING RACE”
Arlington, Texas (July 25, 2016) – The Salvation Army will host its third-annual “The Most Amazing Race” in downtown Arlington on Saturday, September 10. The Race will begin at 3 p.m. at The AT&T Stadium and end at Levitt Pavilion with a free evening concert by Aquile, a Season 3 contestant on NBC’s “The Voice on NBC’s “The Voice.”
The purpose of the event is to raise funds for Salvation Army programs that impact the Arlington and Mansfield area, including a transitional shelter for homeless families and the Youth Education Town that was started as a lasting legacy of Super Bowl XLV.
The race course will include stations where two-person race teams will be tested with challenges that will tax their brains along with the physical challenge of running the race. Past challenges have included hitting home runs at popGlobe Life Park, taking a team photo while riding the New Texas Giant or the Titan at Six Flags, and performing choreography from Hello Dolly at Theatre Arlington.
Race teams may compete to qualify for participation in The Most Amazing Race by raising a minimum of $250 to benefit The Salvation Army. The top-30 fundraising teams will qualify to enter the race.
The chair for the event is David Sanders, Transition and Transformation Integration Manager for IBM. Sanders has a Master’s Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and is active in the community. He is a head usher at First United Methodist Church in Arlington, a former member of the Arlington ISD Education Foundation, and has been a self-defense instructor for community groups.
"The Salvation Army’s ‘The Most Amazing Race’ will build on the successes of the first two races to be the best yet,” Sanders says. “This year's event continues to grow as sponsors, site challenge hosts, and race teams spread the word and ask to be involved with such a worthy cause. Our goal is to surpass last year's fundraising total of $35,000 so The Salvation Army is able to provide character-building programs for at-risk youth, and to help transition homeless families within our community. With new and different challenges around central Arlington, we expect this year's racers to have a memorable experience that will leave them ready for “The Most Amazing Race” in 2017.
Since 2014, over $50,000 has been raised to shelter and feed families, and provide after school care to underprivileged youth.
The Dallas Cowboys, Caffey Group, Arlington Today, Dallas Wings, The Runner Shop, Arlington Voice, Legend Records, UTARadio.com, Levitt Pavilion, and 94.9 KLTY are current sponsors for the event. Racing teams, additional sponsors and volunteers are still needed.
