Education Spotlight

Youth Education Town (YET)

Our community continues to face incredible challenges due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19. And in times of crisis, our most vulnerable are often young.

Children and youth need additional structure and support to succeed – financially, academically, and emotionally. Across the region, we are quickly evolving services to support hundreds of North Texas children with educational programming, activities, and resources to participate in distance learning with their schools.

Stay-at-home orders and the cancellation of the 2019-20 school year have required enhanced services and protocol at our shelters. Clients who typically leave during the day now remain on-site all day.

Because after-school programs have been suspended, we are temporarily transferring staff to residential programs that are now providing educational and recreational services for youth who are learning from home and in our shelters.

At the Youth Education Town in Arlington, our specialized staff is developing curriculum that includes worksheets, coloring sheets, character-building and spiritual lessons, and NFL PLAY 60 activities to inspire discovery and development in multiple subjects, tailor-made to different age groups.

Families can also pick up the content at drive-through grocery service locations or access the activities online. In Arlington alone, service has increased by 400 percent in the past month.

While these needs were already great, we’re continuing to see them grow.

Please consider a financial contribution to help us support our neighbors. With your support, we’ll continue to meet these needs however and wherever it exists.

We remain committed and thankful.
