Every Dollar Goes Further on Sept. 8
The Salvation Army's DFW Metroplex Command encourages donors to participate in the second annual North Texas Giving Day, with the theme Get Up and Give!, on Wednesday, Sept. 8. That day only, every donation above $25 will be matched with part of a $700,000 matching fund when given through DonorBridge, an online resource provided by the Communities Foundation of Texas to connect donors with nonprofit organizations.

Fashion Show Funding Grants Awarded to 18 Salvation Army Centers

The National Human Trafficking Hotline receives more calls from Texas than any other state - and 15 percent of those calls are from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The state's numerous interstate highways, bus stations, truck stops, strip clubs, modeling studios, etc., make Texas a breeding ground for predators. The Department of Justice has designated the I-10 corridor as the No. 1 route for human trafficking in the U.S.

Local Mass Care Task Force goes public with fund-raising effort
On Thursday, April 29, the Mass Care Task Force broadly presented its financial needs to a group of corporate executives at a meeting at the Volunteer Center of North Texas. During the meeting, Major Ward Matthews, DFW Metroplex Commander for The Salvation Army, told the audience that under normal circumstances the four groups would be considered competitors. But the agencies are putting competition aside to collaborate for disaster response purposes because that's what is best for the community.

U.N. Names The Salvation Army Lead Agency in Haiti
The Salvation Army has been named by the United Nations (UN) as the lead agency responsible for well-being of an estimated 20,000 earthquake survivors. The organization will continue to serve those survivors while coordinating with other agencies and planning its long-term recovery for the country.

Salvation Army workers in Port-au-Prince accepted a shipment of 18 pallets of food and 4 pallets of bottled water sent from the logistics team in Miami. The 18 pallets of food represent over 213,000 meals.

THE SALVATION ARMY ESTABLISHING EARTHQUAKE RELIEF OPERATION IN PETIT GOAVE, HAITI
The coastal community of Petit Goave (Little Gulf) on the north coast of the Haiti peninsula will be the next community to benefit from Salvation Army earthquake relief efforts. The city of 200,000 is estimated to have lost 1,500 people in the earthquake. Another 3,000 were injured. Within a six mile radius there are approximately 6,000 living in temporary housing such as tents and "make-shift" shelters.

The Salvation Army to Reopen School in Port-au-Prince
In a small sign that life will return to normal more than a week after Haiti's earthquake, The Salvation Army will reopen a school in a temporary site at the organization's compound in Port au Prince. Prior to the earthquake, 1,500 children attended The Salvation Army school each day. The Salvation Army will offer day-to-day schooling and support for hundreds of children ages three to six in the coming weeks.
