Domestic Violence Program
Domestic violence tears families apart and inflicts emotional scars on its victims. The Salvation Army's Domestic Violence Program provides special care for these unfortunate individuals. Victims are mostly battered and abused women and their children. The program ensures 24-hour-a-day security.
The family violence program provides shelter and counseling for women and children, as well as assistance in planning for employment, housing or other needs. The Salvation Army assists domestic violence victims in filing protective orders and encourages participation in group counseling twice a week.
In counseling, many women are able for the first time to share their stories and build bonds with one another. They grow more confident and more educated as they learn the cycle of violence that occurs when living with an abuser.
Programs also teach women parenting, nutrition and job skills. Lawyers advise women of their legal rights. Residents stay from 16 to 30 days as they are helped to make the transition to independence.
