(As of 08/31/2017)
Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center: Currently serving three meals a day to about 500 people. Expecting the arrival of 2,500 to 4,000 more evacuees tonight.
Forth Worth Convention Center: This shelter is receiving its first evacuees tonight. It will accept people after the Wilkerson Grimes Recreation Center (see below) is full.
It has a maximum capacity of 640.
The Salvation Army is also serving meals at the following City of Fort Worth recreation centers:
Worth Heights Recreation Center (current pop. 40)
Wilkerson Grimes Recreation Center (current pop. 0)
Meals were provided to evacuees at this location on Monday and Tuesday. Those evacuees departed for home after they felt it was safe.
With no shelter residents on Wednesday and Thursday, meals were served to an average of 20 members of the National Guard only.
More evacuees will be coming to this center tonight and we will begin serving meals there on Friday.
We've had so many responses of how to get involved with the relief efforts. Please remember this disaster event is still unfolding and access to many of the impacted areas is restricted. It may take time before in-kind donations can be accepted and moved into the impacted area.
Right now there is a definite need for volunteers at the shelter that has been setup in Dallas to house those who are escaping the hurricane, as well as financial giving (please mark "Hurricane Relief" on your gift).
