Area Commander
Major C. Mark Brown Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex Area Commander
Major C. Mark Brown was appointed as Area Commander for the DFW Metroplex Command, the organization's largest U.S. operation, effective June 28, 2006. In this position, Major Brown will be the chief executive officer for a five-county territory including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, and Ellis Counties. He will supervise a staff of 400 employees and oversee a budget of $31.6 million to deliver an extensive range of compassionate services and spiritual programs to meet human needs in the community.
Major Brown will be responsible for an operation that includes 15 community centers, four homeless shelters, a 90-apartment senior living center, two social service centers, and two Christmas assistance centers. Under his leadership, the command will involve more than 500 corporate partners and more than 20,000 volunteers annually.
He will also work closely with a 90-member Advisory Board comprised of local business and civic leaders.
In his early career with The Salvation Army, Major Brown administered social/welfare centers in his native England. Later he was responsible for fund-raising, event planning, and media/public relations. From 1992 to 2001, he was director of The Salvation Army's Office of Media Ministries where he produced award-winning television, film, and video programs for The Salvation Army and other non-profit and for-profit clients in over 50 countries.
In June, 2001, Major Brown was appointed as Area Commander for the Birmingham Area Command in Alabama. He oversaw 22 programs and services, including a school and residential center for at-risk youth, emergency disaster services, a women's shelter program, men's emergency accommodation, a transitional housing apartment complex, emergency financial assistance (rent, utilities, and food), a women's and children's emergency residence, and three community centers.
Mark and his wife Susan, also a Salvation Army officer, have three children: Nick, Matt and Kirstin.
